I once read that our hobbies are the things we do to make ourselves interesting to ourselves. I know that's true for me.
  • One of the first and still one of the best fan sites on the web, the Van Morrison Home Page provides unmatched insights into the one of rock-and-roll's most enduring artists.

  • Millions of people have banded together to help search for life elsewhere in the universe by donating computing power. So far I've supplied more than 1.5 years worth of Macintosh time to the SETI@home project. If (like me) you are also interested in more conventional astronomy, there's a universe of information on the web. One of my favorite starting points is billed as "A multimedia tour of the solar system" and is called "The Nine Planets."

  • Hockey is the world's best sport, and college hockey is its finest iteration. I've never enjoyed being a spectator more than cheering the University of Alaska, Anchorage Seawolves at Sullivan Arena. Even from Sacramento, I follow them here:Seawolf Hockey Home Page. I also like baseball, and Sacramento's summer nights provide a perfect backdrop for Oakland's AAA farm club, the Rivercats. • I like fountain pens, especially old fountain pens. Especially Parker 51s. There's something about their absolutely analog funtion that contrasts so nicely with all this high-tech wizardry. You can see some beauties at the Vintage Pens Website.

  • The home page at my old college, Churchill College, University of Cambridge, with good links to other Cambridge sites. When I get nostalgic for undergrad years (very seldom), I can visit sites at Johns Hopkins, especially the student newspaper, Johns Hopkins News-Letter. Of course, when I was managing editor there, we published twice a week ...
  • Music lovers may find some useful pointers here at the Musical Styles site.
